Landlord asking to vacate without emergency reason

We have been staying in this rental property, a 2BHK since March 2024, Landlord has ensured us that he wants a long term tenant and we have also assured that we intend on staying at least 2 to 3 years (Recorder on Whatsapp Messages). Last saturday, 9th November 2024, Landlord suddenly sent a blunt message asking us to move in early January as he is planning on getting married and wants the house to live there with his wife away from where he is currently staying with his mother. This has put us in huge stress as we cannot afford to shift within less than a year of shifting to this house and spending so much on installation of equipment and also some basic repairs which he had not done before handing the house over to us. Can he go back on his word like this or can we hold him accountable and refuse to shift? If he forces us, can we make him pay for the additional charges we have to bear. He has repeatedly assured us in the past that he does not plan to vacate us but this was a sudden blow.
