How to recover money from SBI Life insurance?
Ast year, when we purchased a new home, we took a home loan from SBI. The bank manager insisted that we also buy SBI life insurance. We opted for the SBI Smart Privilege Plan with a premium of 6 lakhs annually for 5 years. We paid the first year's premium in full. This year, due to financial difficulties, we could only pay 1.5 lakhs of the second year's premium and were unable to pay the remaining 4.5 lakhs. Consequently, we decided to discontinue the policy.
The policy has a 5-year lock-in period. As we discontinued, SBI Life is moving the 7.5 lakhs we've already paid into a discontinued fund, which does not yield any returns and has a growth rate of only 6%. Initially, our money was invested in the SBI Equity Fund, which is growing at a 15% CAGR.
This situation is causing us a financial loss because the discontinued fund's growth rate does not even beat inflation, and we have to wait 5 years. When we requested a refund of the money we've paid, SBI Life cited the lock-in period clause.
Given these circumstances, we are facing a significant financial loss. Can we take legal action against SBI Life to recover our money?
