Fraud interior company
Hi,
I had signed up with an interior company. After the second payment of 60%, I spotted lots of red flags in their work (workers not coming to the site, office shut down, phones switched off, design phase not getting completed). In the meanwhile, the company was asking for the last payment (40%) so they could dispatch my furniture from the factory. I did deep research and realised that it is indeed a scam company and came to know about at least 20 other aggrieved customers. The company has been taking money under different names, dodges customer calls and has cheated all these customers and not completed any projects. They take the last instalment and then disappear. I obviously refused to pay the company and claimed a refund.
The company is claiming I am delaying the work. Now that I know the company is a cheating company (based on grievances of past customers), can I claim a refund saying I do not want to proceed with the company (even if claims it is willing to continue with my project)? The reason is that I do not trust the company anymore and do not want to pay them a penny more, since they are most likely to disappear after taking my money. Does this constitute a cheating case?
