Continues Torture for money extortion
I am a 55-year-old widow of a retired army officer staying with in laws, & mother of 2 sons who have been living away from home for education & work. My elder son is married. Unfortunately, my husband struggled with a severe gambling addiction, which led to us losing almost everything, including our home. Our sons had to sell their own house to pay off debts amounting to 60 lakhs. My husband also squandered his retirement fund & savings on gambling. I am still paying pension loan , land loan & court cases from other people who have not received money.
Due to his addiction, my husband constantly asked for money from relatives & friends, leading us to share our situation with them to avoid further debts. He even threatened us with suicide if we didn't provide him with money. Given his suicidal tendencies, we reached out to his distant brother, a sub-inspector in Fatehabad police, to intervene. We seek help from my husband parents and brother but they never come forward to help for past grudges and due to personal choices.
After my husband's passing last year, his distant cousin, the police inspector, suddenly started demanding 10 lakhs, claiming he had lent it to my husband. Although my husband's addiction was well-known, this inspector never mentioned the loan before & only brought it up after his death. He has been threatening us, using his influence and conducting panchayats with my husband's brother to extract the money.
As a bypass heart patient, I am finding it difficult to cope with the stress & pressure from the inspector, my in-laws, & thier relatives who are supporting him due to past grudges. I am struggling to understand why the inspector would lend money to my husband despite knowing our family's situation. He has no proof, & his demands are becoming unbearable. I am feeling harassed & boycotted by society.
The police inspector's harassment escalated to the point where he started issuing life threats to my son over phone calls. Consequently, we filed a complaint against him at the Fatehabad police station, where he is employed. In an attempt to prove his innocence, he coerced my in-laws, husband's brothers, & neighbors into signing a paper, falsely claiming that I had filed a complaint against the entire family & that they needed to sign to prove their innocence.
My sons & I feel utterly helpless as everyone around us is pressuring us to pay the money that we never borrowed. The police officer has no proof to support his claims. We are desperate for assistance from an NGO or human rights forum to rescue us from this nightmarish situation.
My elder son has sent a notice to the inspector, who continues to threaten us with his 35 years of experience, boasting that he can summon 40 people for a panchayat and daring us to come to the village .We attempted to reason with my in-laws, explaining that we would handle the situation with police ,kindly requesting them to not intervene but no use . Kindly help in this matter .
