I am preparing for Civil Services/UPSC Govt exam- to become an IAS.
I’m preparing for Civil services/ UPSC exam for govt job as an IAS/IPS officer. I met with an accident in Chennai city, although I’m from Delhi.
In 2019 I met with an accident with a scooty, and I was driving the car. I had applied my brakes on time as the scooty appeared out of nowhere, but the pillion rider got scared to see my approaching car and subsequently fell on the Tarmac.
Nothing happened to the scooty, nor the scooty driver, only the basic skin wound which will happen to anyone if you fall on the main road happened to the pillion rider.
Despite it not being my fault, I took the lady to Fortis Hospital just to make sure everything was fine, got all checkups done for any fracture etc. The doctor present there said nothing is wrong.
Despite all this she claimed insurance as my car was insured. But police put an FIR on me for 279 and 338. Negligent and rash driving and grievous hurt. It’s been over 4 years almost 5 years now. I did not receive summons but I’m planning to contact the police myself and get the case solved. I’m confused about:
1) whether I should pay the ₹ 1500-2000 Fine and accept guilt and get the case closed
2) whether I should Fight the case, and not accept guilt. Not sure how long the case will go on for, how the evidence will be collected, whether there will be cctv evidence now or not, considering it’s been over 4 years, as it’s 2024 now and accident happened in 2019
I’m worried about this affecting my govt job aspects if I pay the fine. Because paying fine would be equal to accepting guilt….
And it was not my fault. Just that I was in a car and they were in a scooty and it’s always the bigger vehicle’s fault. They weren’t wearing helmets, they were overspending and didn’t follow the traffic signals
Another issue was the language as FIR also was written in Tamil. I didn’t get a chance to explain my side to anybody.
