A friend not returning money

So the thing is, I lended money to one of my friends about 8 months ago. I didn't have the money so I had to take a loan in my name to give him money. The reason why he needed money was because his father owns a tiles business and his friend has taken tiles from him worth 10lacs in credit. his friend who took tiles in credit committed suicide with his entire family and so he wanted to return the money back to his father so he needed 5 lacs. He said he'll return back the money within 6months. He also gave me a blank signed cheque of his bank account. the verbal agreement was that he'll be paying the EMI and then he'll foreclose the loan (in 6months). He paid the EMI for the initial two months and then he stopped paying. The list of excuses (it may or may not be true) he gave, 1) He's a registered stock broker and SEBI put a stop to all his dealings because he was on 50-50 partnership with his clients in intraday trading profits. He had a 65lacs of portfolio in Dhan which was frozen by SEBI. His father called up and told me that he has to pay 14lacs of penalty somewhere so he needed whatever I can possibly give. I lended another 2 lacs to his father. 2) After 4 months, he says his father had a heart attack (which later he verbally communicated that his father attempted suicide. I'm not even sure it was true. 3) After 6 months, his father stops picking my calls and when he attends his answer is simple "Whatever it is, my son will only handle." 4) And now a month ago his father told me his son also attempted suicide by consuming phenyl and was admitted in some hospital. It has been 7 months since all this has passed and for the past 4 months he has not paid any dues or EMIs. The lenders are torturing me because I'm hardly managing to pay the EMIs. Please note: we did not make any written agreement since I'd known him for a long time. Please advice me on what to do.
