A few days ago, I went to my nearest regional police station for passport verification with my father. I'm an adult but still I went with my father. There the officer asked a lot of mind twisting questions including my native place. Before i could answer, my father told the officer that we were from Nepal. My grand parents were from Nepal but my parents were born in India after 1950 but before 1985. I was very shocked and angered as to why he said that as the officer was asking me. Then he asked if he had documents of his country and he said he has no such documents of Nepal. Then the officer called someone on phone (probably regional passport officer) and spoke to him regarding this matter and later the officer told us that my parents have to get Indian citizenship first only then will my passport application be approved. I was born and brought up in Bangalore from year 2000. I don't want my parents to apply for Indian citizenship as it is a very tedious and long process, also I need my passport at the earliest because I need it for my higher education abroad. So in this case, what should I do? Should i and my father deny that what he said there at the police station was not true? And if I adverse my passport application by any means like not responding to police verification calls or submitting a statement saying that there is some mistake in my proof of address, will I be in any kind of legal or non legal troubles? If i do this, then can I reapply for passport in later months at another police station where I can say that me and me parents are Indian citizens even though we are according to citizenship law? But only problem is that my parents don't have birth certificate. Or will I be assigned the same police station for police verification if I reapply for passport? My parents were born in India but they do not have birth certificate as they were hardly issued in those days. Both my parents were born before 1985.
I am hoping to hear from you as soon as possible.
