Harassment by Recovery Agent
Over the past few years, life has thrown several devastating challenges our way. We lost both our parents within a year after their prolonged battle with illness, and our business suffered due to the resulting financial and family disruptions, coupled with mounting medical expenses. Additionally, we fell victim to a scam, leaving us burdened with significant loans.
While we were able to pay the first four months' EMIs, we have faced immense difficulties over the last two months and have been unable to make the payments. I want to emphasize that we have no intention of defaulting on our loan, but we humbly request another one month extension to get back on track. Thankfully, our business has started attracting customers and we are very slowly recovering from our bankruptcy, and we are confident that from September 2023, we will be able to resume paying our EMIs. If possible, we will make earlier payments by the grace of God.
However, I am compelled to bring to your attention the unbearable harassment we are facing from a collection agent. He has been verbally abusive over the phone and has even come to our home uninvited on multiple occasions, causing us immense distress. He continuously issues threatening calls, making our lives unbearable. His actions extend to his "manager" as well, who is equally intimidating.
Regrettably, the collection agent has crossed all boundaries during his conversations with us. He has resorted to maligning our characters, commenting on our education, and making inappropriate remarks about me as a woman. The continuous harassment has left me feeling emotionally shattered and has pushed me to consider drastic measures.
As I write this email, I fear for my safety and the well-being of my husband. The collection agent and his manager have threatened to visit our neighbors tomorrow and inform them about our situation, also he said that he will make sure that we are forced to leave our society as he is going to defame us to that point, and they have even mentioned contacting our relatives. We feel hopeless, helpless, and trapped, with no one to listen to our pleas.
What can we do at this point except taking any drastic measure?
