Legal Name Change - Indian Passport
Dear Lawyer,
I was born and raised in the UAE and currently seeking to change my legal name on my Indian Passport. I have successfully amended my birth certificate to reflect my new name, changing it from Rohan Satish to Jason Haynes. However, the Indian Embassy requires two public identity documents issued in the new name to proceed with the name change. I only possess one document, which is the updated Birth Certificate.
It is difficult for me to travel to my permanent address in Kerala due to personal circumstances and physical conditions. My question is, how can I persuade the Indian Embassy to allow me to proceed with the name change using just one document? Alternatively, if this approach is not feasible, what is the process for successfully publishing a name change gazette in Kerala and modifying my name on the "Adhar" card while residing in Dubai? I am not affiliated with any religion, however, someone at VakilSearch informed me that my gazette application may be rejected due to the misconception that my new name belongs to the "christian community" and my old name belongs to the "hindu community".
Your guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Rohan
