Legal action against University
In 2021, I was working in a Pvt. Ltd. Company which was hired and selected for the setup of a specialised laboratory for a University in Udupi district. After completing all procedures, the lab setup was started in March 2022 and completed by May 2022, handover was completed in August and small pending details were closed by October.
The University has yet to make payments of 2 lakhs for work completed despite the issuance of a completion certificate.
The company was closed in Dec 2022 and in January 2023, the University contacted me directly to help to run and operate the lab in my personal capacity and several face to face meetings were initiated to confirm and close.
Based on verbal discussions and the assurances that all pending bills would be cleared along with signature of a standard MoU and advances for my own professional services, basic operations work was started in February 2023 which involved hiring a lab resource and training.
Despite multiple reminders throughout the month, no bills were cleared, no MoU was signed, and my services were withdrawn from March 2023 and a bill for reimbursement of all expenses was sent to the University.
The University is asking me to visit the campus to clear the bills and they still refuse to move forward on any official agreement. Every face to face visit is only met with more delays and they refuse to reimburse travel costs as well.
Total outstanding amounts are in excess of Rs. 3 lakh. How would I go about legally recovering this amount from them?
All emails and documentation is present from my end despite no replies from their end.
