Prabable discrepancy in recruitment process

In the Faculty Recruitment Interview of AIIMS, my name appeared in Waiting list Sl No. 01 for the post of Associate Professor and Dr ABC was in Waiting list Sl No. 02. Another candidate Dr XYZ's name was not even there in waiting list though she also appeared for Associate professor post. That means that I scored more than Dr ABC and Dr XYZ and hence was placed at a higher position in the waiting list for Associate professor by the Selection board. However, in the selected list of candidates (2 posts) for Assistant Professor (which is the next lower post) Dr ABC and Dr XYZ have been selected and my name is not there in the selected list or waiting list for Assistant Professor. Kindly note a single interview was conducted for selection of both Associate Professor Assistant Professor Posts My humble query is therefore, if I was deemed superior to / scored higher marks than another candidate for a higher post (Associate Professor), how could I be considered inferior to / score lesser marks than the same candidate(s) for a lower post (Assistant Professor) in the same interview? Is it justified?
