Is a Housing Society liable to pay damages?

Respected Sirs, We are members of a housing society based in Mumbai, owing a flat in the society's building since inception (i.e. 1968). During the summer of 2020, the housing society undertook repair works wherein tarpaulin sheets were spread on the terrace to prevent leakage of rain water into the flats of members living on the topmost floor. In order to hold these tarpaulin sheets down, huge rocks were placed over these sheets on the surface and also the walls of the terrace. In the unseasonal storm of May 2021, one of these huge rocks fell on my car which was parked in the society compound, completely smashing the windshield and a portion of the car roof. Had the rock fallen on any person walking below, he would have surely died. I have since repaired the car at my expense and have raised a claim against the Society via email enclosing all photos and the repair bill as proof. My premise is that if I were to cause any damage to the Society's property, the Society can recover damages from me, the reverse position should also hold true. However, the Society refuses to reimburse the loss inflicted upon me due to it's negligent repair work. Kindly note we have been paying our maintenance charges (including parking charges) regularly and have all photos and bills as proof. I request the following guidance: 1. How good is my case against the Society for reimbursement of expenses incurred by me due to the damage caused by the Society's repair work? 2. After the Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, who is the next appellate authority who can be approached in this matter.
