Loan to an Indian citizen from abroad
Hi everybody, I have a question regarding loans to India. I was born in UK to Indian parents and have lived there my whole life. I am a British citizen for around 17 years, previously having been an Indian citizen due to my parents not being settled when I was born. I therefore am an overseas citizen of India through my parents. I have a personal connection in Chennai, India who has been kicked out of his home along with his family because they were not making enough money to pay rent. He has split up from his family who have not even visited him once. He took out a bank loan for his brother's health a while back and still has not been able to pay it off because he does not have any money. Some time ago, a motorbike rider in Chennai scraped his foot causing a fracture in that foot, which still hasn't healed because he has no money at all so he cannot even eat. Because of his foot fracture, he is in no condition to work, and therefore cannot pay off his loan. He has had to have surgery on his foot to help repair his bone twice with the second time being a replacement plate surgery. I have loaned him money for quite some time, paying for his food, helping to pay his bank loan and have paid for both his surgeries, sending the funds overseas to his location using an international money transfer service called Western Union. What would I have to do if I wanted this money back at some point in the future?
