Non Compete clause
Hello everyone.
I recently left my job at a company where I worked for only 5 months. I have now joined another organisation. For context, my previous employer was a 'boutique consulting firm and an investment bank' and my new employer is 'rating and analytics' company. Today, I received my relieving letter from my previous employer. The letter contains the following clause:
"By virtue of your past employment with us, you would also be inherently restricted to solicit
business customers / partners / market agencies of XYZ or any other associate
entity or related entity in the group or compete in a business providing services / solutions or products
identical / similar or adjacent thereto."
The clause above mentions no time limit and uses the word 'inherently' which makes me wonder would this clause imply that on signing the document, we are bound by the clause forever? I would like to continue in my new job for at least 2-3 years before looking for something new and would like to work in investment banks in the future.
Your response would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
