Can I possess two driving lincense

I got my lmv license (manual)way back in Sept1996.There after I got license for scooter without gear in nov 2001.A booklet was issued with lmv and m/c without gear. In the year Apr 2014 I got it renewed after mandatory medical examination(i had completed 50yrs age in Jan2014). The license was due for renewal in 2019 but I could not renew it in time. I was also not driving any vehicle. Now when I approached the RTO/Mysore they asked me to give test for both 4 and 2 wheeler......fine as per rules. While renewing my license in 2014 they erroneously gave me m/c with gear along with car which I did not notice at that time. When I asked them to correct the error they are not agreeing. I want to surrender my car driving license and have only get licence for driving gearless scooter. When I approached the ARTO with this Problem he advised me to apply afresh online for a new license. I have got my doubt whether any body can possess two licenses.Kindly advise me sir. Thanking you, Ramanujan l Mysore
