Advice in selling of property

Hello Sir/Madam, I have a property which I had acquired as a legal heir after my father's death. Me and my mother are now the owners of the property. Property is an old two-stored building, which my grandfather had legally passed on to my father. But the problem is that four years back my father had tried to build a flat in place of the old building, through a promoter but then some political parties got involved and they stopped the ongoing construction work because they demanded that my father should give them the promoting rights. But my father had refused. The property was left with half land and half part of old building. Till now the condition is the same and even after my father's death we could not do anything with the property because the party people are active on their demands till now. So now the situation is- we want to sell the property but we do not know how to do this because we stay in Maharashtra and the property is in West Bengal. We do not have anyone on whom we can depend for the sale. Secondly, if the party people come to know of our plans, they might again start a conspiracy against us. Please note our immediate relatives (my father's brothers) are involved with the party. We are in a mess and so cannot understand what to do. Requesting you to please advice us what should be legally correct for us to do in this case. Will really appreciate your valuable advice on this matter as we are in great trouble. Thank You
