Landlord asking for rent even after expiry of rent agreement.

My mother was running a boutique on rent whose agreement expired on feb 2016.The owner of the shop lives in amsterdam and didnt came to renew the rent agreement.As we were getting losses in boutique business so we decided that after rent agreement we will not continue to run the shop and give rent.So we told owner in jan 2016 only that after expiry of rent agreement we wont be able to run the shop so kindly come so that we can handover the keys and vacate the place.But the owner said ok i will come to take the key but it will take some time so dont shut the place kindly run it.Now after expiry of rent agreement the shop ran from march 2016 to october 2016 i.e. 8 months and owner didnt came at all and now she wants 8 months rent.We shut the shop in october at last because we were in huge losses.When we refused to gave the money the owner filed a case against us in district court.Now the case is running from 2 years and the advocate which we adopted is also i think is just delaying the case and on every date he charges 1000/- rupees as we have appointed the lawyer on date basis.Till now the landlord hasnt visited the court at all we even went for mediation but the landlord party never visited the court.Kindly give advise what to do in such case as the case is not progresing anywhere only dates are given and 88,000/- were claimed by landlord lady and till now lawyer got paid with 30k+ money.Also to mention the landlord got this property after the death of her father and the landlord brothers are also after the shop to capture it.So the landlord want the shop to be court case forever.But i doesnt want to be in court case forever.Kindly give advise what to do in this as my rent agreement expired way longer.
