Arbitration on employment bond payment

Background: My brother left his job (due to medical and personal reasons) after 3 months of joining without serving a notice period of 3 months. The employment contract says he has to serve for 3 years else pay 2Lakhs. He met the HR and they tried to convince him to stay but on insisting that he wants to leave, they told him to pay the bond amount. He did not. The contract mentioned that any disputes be handled by an arbitrator. The court has chosen an arbitrator and the meeting with the arbitrator is scheduled on 10th September. Questions: 1) What will be the procedure during Arbitration? Is a lawyer required or can my brother present his case himself? 2) What is the approximate cost of Arbitration? (The contract mentioned that it will be shared equally between the company and the employee) 3) We have read through other cases online and found some points that can be made: a - The employer has the burden of proof to show damages / expenses on the employee worth the bond amount. Given that his training was minimal and shouldn't have costed a lot the bond amount of 2Lakhs is not fair. b - My brother had relevant qualification and had never asked for the training which the company is asking to pay for. c - Even though he was promised a salary of 20K a month he was only paid around 9K. The amount cut from his salary accounted to longevity / gratuity / etc. The company said in due course of every 6 months they would release the money that has been cut. It was one of the reasons he quit as well. d - The company has filed such cases on more than 8 employees at different times and it seems like a money earning scam. Many other employees have succumbed to it and paid the money. Please let us know if these arguments are sound. Thank you in advance for your help.
