Debt recovery notice

Sir, I am Ganesh 24 years, my father who is an agriculturist committed suicide two months ago due to habitual drinking. he has 7 acrs of agricultural barren land and no crop is being cultivated due to unfavourable climate conditions. some of the villagers after my father demise have come to my house and asking for repayment of loan said to have been taken by my father. They say they have promissory notes signed by my father. I am MCA graduate and unemployed and no means of livelihood. I am now left with only my mother who is also a daily labourer. We both are living only on daily wages earned by us. One of the villagers has now served a legal notice on both of us to repay the loan taken by my father. Kindly advise the course of action for us. We have nothing left except selling the land and repaying the loan, which taken lot of time because buyers will take advantage of the situation. Since after my father's death we both are in shock and again these notices served on us left no peace in out lives. kindly advise..
