These are compoundable and petty offence and even if record remain this is not going to affect your career.

This seems to be a petty offence let out on fine.

Though the records will remain with concerned police for their statistical purpose, this may not hamper your career in any manner including reflecting in the police clearance certificate also.

Paying the fine for a drink-and-drive case under Section 185 MV Act typically records it as a traffic violation, not a criminal conviction. This should not directly affect your medical career unless it’s a repeat offense or shows up in background checks.

No if you are left after fine then there is no issue. Only if you get conviction and a sentence of jail term is pronounced then it will be in record till the same is set aside

Only an offence involving moral turpitude will affect your future plans of employment in government or private. Law as to offences involving is laid down by High Court of Delhi  and High Court of Kerala. Conviction in drunken  will certainly not affect your career opportunities.

Dear Client,

Getting caught for drunk driving is serious under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act(MV Act) and Section 281 BNS. Although those charges are serious, the sanctions will depend on how the case will be resolved. If the court fines you, the matter may die off on an internal note. This exercise of payment will create a record on Case Management System(CMS) or traffic department which will be viewed as a minor offense from that train of thought. Typically, these traffic offenses would not count as a "conviction" of an offense under criminal law but is a regulatory breach.

Now coming to your career as a doctor, such cases generally don't impact a doctor in terms of your licensure to practice; unless it's of serious criminal nature or a habitual offender. Drinking and driving charges may not differentially affect your obtaining the doctor title or tarnish your medical council registration. Unfortunately, however, for repeated offenses, or cases of accident or in which life has been endangered, could cause ripples and could be a reason for concern during background checks or applications into government services.

You may consult a legal practitioner if the charge will be compounded or erased from the record after some time as per state statute; do not repeat these incidents in the future as an untarnished history matters while pursuing a professional career.

I hope this answers your query. Feel free to inquire for any query.

1. You compounded the offence by admitting your guilt and paying the fine.

2. Since it is considered a petty offence it should not impact your career prospects.

3. However, if while seeking employment you are asked to inform whether you have been convicted by the court for an offence, you are required to answer it in affirmative.

- If you have already paid the imposed fine before the Court , then the file will be send to the record room and the trial will be stopped

- Further, as this offence come under the MV Act , then the local police will have no record for the same as there is no FIR lodged against the accused.

- It will have no impact on your medical career even in Government job.

In India, if you pay the fine for a drink-and-drive case under Section 181/185 of the Motor Vehicles Act and Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNS), it is generally treated as a penalty for the offence rather than a conviction, provided no formal trial or conviction occurs. The case might not show as a criminal conviction in your permanent record, but it could appear in police or court records.

However, for professional careers like medicine, it is essential to ensure that the offence does not lead to any further legal consequences, such as suspension of your driving licence or an increased insurance premium.

In terms of your medical career, a drink-and-drive case typically should not directly affect your ability to practice medicine, unless it leads to a criminal conviction or disciplinary action by medical councils, which is usually not the case for traffic violations like this. However, repeat offences or more severe penalties could raise concerns during background checks for certain medical positions, particularly in the healthcare sector.
