You have to apply under NRI category as for last 6 years she is an NRI
Hi Sir, I have a question for CLAT2025 exam.. my daughter has completed 6 to 12th Grade in USA.. and Gdade 1 to 5th Grade in India. 1) She has written CLAT 2025 and applied under Indian general caterory. Not as a NRI , is this acceptable? 2) Is it Mandatory to apply under NRI category.as we are moving back to india.
Why not indian general category as we are citizens of india and moving back to india permanently if we don't want NRI quota. None of the CLAT websites mentioned that such student should not apply under Indian general category.Every website mentioned only eligibilty for NRI quota....not in n elligibility of such students under indian general category.
Thank you so much for advice. This is printed in my CLAT application. Please clarify what it means: "In case of NRI/NRI Sponsored Categories, candidates will be allotted a NRI/NRI Sponsored NRI rank. CLAT office will not do allotment of NRI/NRI Sponsored seats. Candidates will be required to directly approach the respective NLU with their ranks for admission. However, candidates will be included in the Admission Counseling process for their other applied categories. Does it mean if not intersted to claim NRI quota ,we can apply in general /other categories as per the last sentence? This is my last question.

Your are right. It is the candidate who is given right to avail the reservation in any particular category. NRI is nothing but Indian citizen who resides for long time abroad.
Therefore if you being NRI opted for General category you have done no wrong and in adversity you can challenge this action by filing writ petition in high curt.
Indian General Category Eligibility: Yes, your daughter can apply under the Indian General Category, even if she has completed her 6th to 12th grade in the USA, as long as she is an Indian citizen. The eligibility for the General Category is not restricted by the location of schooling.
NRI Category Application: It is not mandatory to apply under the NRI category unless you wish to avail of the NRI quota. As your daughter is an Indian citizen, you can choose to apply under the General Category, and it is perfectly acceptable.
Explanation of the CLAT Application Statement: The sentence you mentioned means that if you choose not to apply for the NRI quota and instead opt for the General Category or other categories, your daughter will be part of the regular counselling process for those categories. The NRI/NRI Sponsored categories will not be applicable unless you explicitly choose that route.
If you do not wish to apply under the NRI quota, applying under the Indian General Category is completely acceptable, and she will be part of the normal counselling process for that category.
