Dear Client,
Air India, IndiGo, and other notable airlines have been given a show-cause notice by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for violating rules pertaining to providing amenities to passengers in the event of rejected boarding, flight cancellation, and flight delay. The notice emphasises how crucial it is for travellers to understand their legal rights in these circumstances.
When an airline declines to carry a passenger who has arrived for boarding within the allotted time, the passenger has the right to know about denied boarding. It is crucial to remember that the airline has the right to prohibit boarding if they have valid reasons, such as concerns about security, health, or safety, or insufficient travel documentation. Overbooking flights by airlines is legal and may lead to rejected boarding. Airlines are required to request volunteers to give up their seats in such situations.
The airline is required by DGCA guidelines to provide you with assistance such as meals, lodging, and transportation, as well as compensation and a confirmed seat on a another aircraft if you are forcibly denied boarding.
