• Arms License Application

I have applied for Arms License in Punjab. I have completed all the formalities including medical, police verification and training. But SSP office is not forwarding my file to DC office. They have kept the file pending for more than six months. I have met the SSP personally also in his office but nothing happened. I have two questions:
1. How can I file RTI to SSP office for asking reasons for not clearing my file?
2. To whom I can appeal against SSP office for keeping my file pending without describing any reason?

1. You can submit a letter under RTI Act to the PIO seeking the status of your application seeking arms license submitted on......., failing to get a reply within 30 days, you can file an appeal against it.

2. You can either approach the District collector with an application seeking its direction to the concerned police officer to dispose your application seeking licence for arms or can approach high court with a writ petition seeking the desired relief.

- As per Schedule II of the Arms Rules, 1962 and Section 2 of the Arms Act , DM and Commissioner of Police/ Deputy Commissioner of Police are the signing authority for issuing the Arms license.

1. File RTI application before the PIO of SSP office

2 You can lodge an appeal before the office of DM OR COMMISSIONER OF POLICE in Punjab .

Dear client,

  1. You can submit an RTI (Right to Information) request to the SSP office's Public Information Officer (PIO) to inquire about the progress of your application for an arms license. Indicate in detail what information you need about the cause of the application processing delay. Make sure to include your contact information as well as any applicable reference numbers.
  2. You may file a complaint under the provisions of the Right to Information Act, 2005, with the State Public Information Officer or the State Information Commission if your application for an arms license is not being handled legally. In addition, you can consider using Article 226 of the Indian Constitution to file a writ petition in the High Court to request instructions for the prompt consideration of your application.

Hope this helps you.
