• Bank account freeze

I am a international student from karnataka, studying my higher studies in canada. I have my bank account in union bank of india. Its very hard to pay fees for me as my fees is almost 12lakhs per year and also my rental and monthly grocery expenses are around 1lakh per month. I used to work part time to manage my expenses and I lost my job as my part time job contract expired. I had to pay my fees and rent so I had asked for donation help on instagram to pay for college fees. And also asked social media influencers to ask for help on my behalf to pay my fees. May people donated 50, 100, 500 as much as they can via upi. Now due to many upi transactions the bank freezed my account. And here my college is pressurizing me to pay the fees else i won't be able to register for next semester, and also my transcripts are on hold. I provided all details to my branch and its almost 15 days no action
I contacted the customer care they are again asking me to contact the branch now what should i do. I there any way i can ask for the bank to unfreeze my account or what legal action i can take against the bank for not unfreezing my account.

1) file writ petition in HC to direct bank to unfreeze your account as you are unable to pay your fees due to account being frozen

2) in alternative complain to bank ombudsman against your account being frozen

It is not clear whether you have an NRE (Non-Resident External) account with the bank. If so, the funds are freely repatriable outside India. It is also not clear why your account was 'frozen' in the first place. Have you lodged any complaint online with the bank, and if so, what is the response?

You issue a legal notice to your bank demanding reasons to freeze your account and to unfreeze it immediately.

Failing to comply with the demand made you may escalate the matter through banking ombudsman or consumer redressal commission.

- You can send an application to the RBI (even through Website ) for unfreezing the account after writing the all the details which you are facing.

- Further, you can also send an email or letter to the Head office of UBI , and also can raise a complaint to the redressal cell of bank.

Dear Client,

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you're facing with your bank account being frozen. It sounds incredibly stressful, especially with the urgent need to pay your fees and manage your expenses.

Follow up with your branch manager or another senior official at the bank. Sometimes, escalating the issue to higher-ranking personnel might expedite the resolution. Keep a record of all your communications with the bank, including emails, phone calls, and in-person visits. Note down dates, times, names of the people you spoke to, and what was discussed. This documentation could be crucial if you need to escalate the matter further. Try to understand the exact reason why your account was frozen. It could be due to a sudden influx of transactions or for verification purposes. Understanding the cause will help you address it more effectively. If you're not getting a satisfactory response, consider filing a formal complaint with the bank. Banks typically have a complaint redressal mechanism. You can find details on their website or inquire at the branch about the process.

In India, you have the option to escalate the issue to higher authorities like the Banking Ombudsman if the bank fails to resolve the matter. This should be considered if your issue isn’t resolved at the branch level. As a last resort, if you believe the bank's actions are unwarranted and causing you significant harm, seeking legal advice might be necessary. However, legal actions often involve time and expenses, so consider this step cautiously. While navigating this challenging situation, try to explore alternative ways to pay your fees, such as seeking temporary financial assistance from your college or discussing a payment plan directly with them. Sometimes, colleges can be understanding of genuine financial hardships faced by students.

We hope your bank resolves this issue promptly so you can focus on your studies without added stress. You can reach out to us for further assistance.
