• Birth certificate - change in mother's name

All my wife's documents are as per her name before marriage. But we recieved our daughter birth certificate with wife's name mentioned as per after marriage. We are planning to apply passport of our daughter.
Now if in our daughter's passport application we put my wife's name as per her passport, it will not match daughter's birth certificate.

Wanted to know if this will create issue fir daughter's passport application. If yes what are the ways to resolve this issue. We want to keep all my wife's documents as oer before marriage only.

No need to worry; your daughter's passport will come as per her birth certificate. If there is any issue, kindly submit your marriage certificate.

You need to provide documents as per names you need otherwise you need to change it through gazette notification

Your wife should change name by notification in official gazette and 2 local newspapers

2) then apply for change of name in passport

3) then name would match with other documents

The passport authorities will insist on the birth certificate only to record the details of the child.

If the birth certificate of the mother of the child contains her post marriage name and not maiden name then the passport will be issued on that name alone.

Therefore there will be inconsistency in the child's mother's name to that of the several documents available  in the name of its mother.

It is advised that the mother of the child may follow the name change process to have one single name and get it published in the government gazette  so that that will become an authenticate document for all reference

- Since, her all the documents are as per her name before the marriage , hence she should adopt this name for applying the passport of your daughter

- The birth certificate is for the birth date , and the name of mother can be corrected even after the issuance except the birth date

- Further , if she is educated , then her name cannot be changed in the academic certificates after one year from the date of passing that qualification.

Dear Client,

This discrepancy between your wife's name on her documents before marriage and the one mentioned in your daughter's birth certificate might pose a challenge during your daughter's passport application process. Passport applications typically require consistency and accuracy in the information provided.

To mitigate this issue, you can draft an affidavit or a notarized statement explaining the difference in your wife's name on her documents before and after marriage. This document can attest that both names refer to the same person. This affidavit can be submitted along with the passport application. You may explore the possibility of legally changing your daughter's birth certificate to reflect your wife's name as it appears in her documents before marriage. Contact the passport office or the relevant authority handling passport applications. Explain the situation and inquire about their protocol in such cases. They might provide specific guidance or additional steps to rectify the discrepancy.
