• Name with "-" in it

My first name and surname are A B
And my wife's name and surname is X Y

We are thinking of naming our child (daughter)
C Y-B (The surname is "Y-B" with a "-" in between 2 surnames). No middlename.
Will this cause any issues on any documents in the future i.e. Aadhar, Pan, Passport etc?

You can name your daughter as CYB reflecting her name , mother surname and your surname

only issue would be her name would be quite long one . short name is always better

Hello,

  1. No, It shouldn't cause any issues on the issuance of documents like aadhaar card, pan card or passport as all of these will be issued on application which will seek details required to process the documents.
  2. And there's no restriction regarding how one may name one's child, there are instances where people have named their children by the letter of the alphabet or as electron, neutron and proton.
  3. There's nothing that can be legal impediment to naming your child the way you have decided.

The name is your choice, you can name your child in the manner of your choice, there is no hard and fast rule that you have to name your child only in any prescribed manner or format.

The surname is also a name, hence there is no restriction name your child in the manner you both have decided to.

- Legally, you can name her as per your wish , and it is not mandatory for a child whether son or daughter , to affix the surname of his father or mother.

- Hence, there will not any issues for obtaining the documents like Aadhar, Pan card & Passport

You can name your child the way you like. There should not be any problem unless you use certain words which are considered unparliamentary or derogatory for society.
