• Place of birth Change in Indian Passport

I have the wrong place of birth in my passport. When I filed my passport for the first time in 2005, my place of birth was kept the same as my permanent residence that is Hyderabad. But I got my original birth certificate from Zambia, Africa recently. My parents were staying there for job purposes while I was born. My passport was issued from Hyderabad. Currently I am in the USA and I want to get the place of birth changed from Hyderabad to Zambia in my passport. I have a few questions.
1. What is the procedure ?
2. Can the whole thing be done without my presence in India as I will be in the USA?
3. What are the documents required for the process?
4. How long will it take to get it done?
5. What will be the total expenses?
6. Does it require to file any case?

To change the date/place of birth in the passport, you have to apply for a “Re–issue” of passport and get the specified change done in the personal particulars

2) your personal presence would be necessary for filing application

3) you have to submit explanation as to why wrong place of birth was mentioned in earlier application for passport

4) if you have 2 birth certificates second birth certificate would have to be cancelled

5) if passport office refuses to change place of birth you may require court orders for change of place in passport

Dear client,

To change the place of birth in your passport, you will need to follow these steps:

Obtain a new birth certificate: You will need to obtain a new birth certificate from the country of your birth, in this case, Zambia. The birth certificate should be issued by the relevant authorities in Zambia and should be translated into English, if necessary.

Update the birth certificate details: Once you have obtained the new birth certificate, you will need to update the details in the birth certificate to match your current passport details. This can be done by submitting an application to the local authorities in Zambia.

Apply for a new passport: Once the birth certificate has been updated, you will need to apply for a new passport with the updated place of birth. This can be done at an Indian Embassy or Consulate in the USA or any other country where you are currently residing.

Submit documents: You will need to submit the following documents along with your passport application:

Current passport
Updated birth certificate
Address proof
Two passport-sized photographs
Any other documents as required by the Embassy/Consulate
Pay fees: You will need to pay the fees for the passport application and any other fees associated with the process. The fees vary depending on the country you are applying from and the type of passport you are applying for.

Wait for processing: The time taken to process the application may vary depending on the Embassy/Consulate and other factors such as the completeness of the application and the availability of the officials.

There is no need to file a case to change the place of birth in your passport. The total expenses will depend on the fees charged by the Embassy/Consulate and any other associated expenses such as translation fees.
