• Change of Date of Birth On passport

Hi Sir, I am from Hyderabad.

I got my 1st passport when I was a kid, But the DOB on the application was wrong.

Later, After I become major and got married and I simply renewed my passport instead of changing my date of birth and travelled to Dubai for a holiday.

Recently, I have renewed my passport again, but I filled the application with correct DOB as per my SSC, PAN Card. Adhere card and all other documents, but the passport officer said it's not possible to change the DOB now and asked to resubmit the application as per the DOB mentioned previously (Which was wrong) and I resubmitted with wrong DOB and received my passport.

Then later when I spoke with my friend he referred me to this website and said it is possible to get the DOB updated as per SSC, Pan card and aadhaar card by paying 500/- Rs Challan

You cannot change date of birth in passport

2) you have renewed passport with wrong date of birth

3) even if you take legal proceedings court would not pass any orders for change of date of birth in passport

OFFICE MEMORANDUM SUBJECT:- Guidelines with regard to change / correction of dates of birth en tries in the pa sport of an applicant already held by him/ her.

It may be mentioned that necessary provisions with regard to change/correction of dates of birth in the passports are contained in the Passport Manual, 2010 and from time to time number of circulars have been issued by the Ministry on this issue.

2. It is pertinent to mention that recently, the High Court of Kerala while hearing the WP No. 9073 of 2015 (Jaya Kumar Vs Union of India & others) has delivered a land-mark judgment on the issue of correction/change of entries regarding date/place of birth in the passport. During the course of arguments, the Court has elaborated upon the fact that the details entered in the Passport cannot be lightly interfered with, that too after many years without any sustainable cause and without any explanation as to why initially such a wrong declaration was made and why now a change is sought that too based on a document which was available with the applicant when the original declaration was made.

4. Hence, the core principle of the judgment of the High Court of Kerala is that only the bonafide claims of the applicants for the change/correction of the date of birthin the passport should be accepted and that too if the same are submitted by them within a reasonable time limit after the issuance of passport. In pursuance of the directions of the High Court, it has been decided that henceforth, all the PIA shall follow the following instructions/ guidelines in order to consider the claims/request the applicant for the change/correction of entries regarding of date of birth in their passports:

If the date of birth was erroneously entered in the passport when you were minor then you should have changed the same as per your birth certificate within three years after becoming major by age.

Whereas you continued to use the same date of birth  subsequently with two more renewals,  hence your application for reissue with a new date of birth will not be entertained by passport authorities.

You may not get relief even though court if you approach with a writ petition too.

Hence better continue with the existing details itself.

Dear Sir,

you can change the date of birth on your passport by following these steps:

  1. Download and fill out the passport application form (Form No. 2) from the official website of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) or from the nearest passport office.

  2. Submit the completed application form along with the required documents, which may include:

  • Proof of Date of Birth (Birth certificate or School leaving certificate or PAN Card etc)
  • Current passport (if available)
  • Self-attested photocopies of all documents

  1. Submit the application form and documents in person at the nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) or at the Indian Missions abroad.

  2. Pay the fee for re-issuance of passport with change of Date of Birth.

  3. Submit the biometric data (fingerprints, photograph) at the time of submission of the application.

  4. Wait for the processing of the application, which usually takes a few weeks.

  5. Receive the new passport with the corrected date of birth.

It is important to note that the process and documents required may vary depending on the specific circumstances of the case and the jurisdiction in which you are applying. It's advisable to consult with the nearest passport office or the Indian Missions abroad for specific requirements.
