• Can parents be witness for marriage registration?

I'm from Mumbai and have filled my Form D - Marriage Memorandum online. The issue is that I added my parents as witnesses from my side as one of the 3 witnesses needed before the registrar.

My question is would parents be okay as witnesses? If not, how can I edit my Form D or can I update form D on the date of registration in front of the registrar?

There is no need to edit anything, parents are valid and competent witnesses for a marriage registration.

The parents of either or both the parties to marriage can very well be a witness to the registration of marriage.

There's no legal infirmity in it.

You need not change it.

Just inform them to produce their identity proof.

Parents are good witnesses for the marriage registration purposes, besides the priest who solemnized the marriage and two guests who attended it in person.

The most recommended witnesses are parents only apart from other witnesses. Let your father and mother sign as witnesses.

As per law, anyone who is the holder of an Aadhaar card or PAN card or other acceptable proof as per the list of documents can be witness.

- However the witness should preferably not be an immediate blood relative and should have attended the marriage., but it is not mandatory .

- Hence, no need to edit the same.

Dear client,  The witnesses are preferred to be the closest blood relation each from bride and bridegroom. Ideally they insist on one of the parents along with their identification and address proof being the witness to the registration. In your case. Since, your parents are the witness it is perfectly fine.
