PS is  correct you need rental agreement for police verification to be done

2) mere producing them physically will not serve your purpose

3) Under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which pertains to disobedience of order duly promulgated by public servant, an offender may be "punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to one month" or with a fine which may "extend to Rs 200".

It is your duty to verify the correctness and genuineness of each and every tenant in your premises.

You cannot argue with the police when you have not carried out your duty properly.

If you are not able to get the proper details of the tenant and are afraid that you may have to face legal consequences if anyone turns out to be a criminal or an anti social element then don't allow him to be your tenant at all.

It is your duty to follow proper procedures of law in this regard.
